Graphic Design and Illustration

The students will be working on Chapter 5, Lesson 9, 10, and 11. Lesson 9: They will learn to use filters, color effects, the History panel, plus upscaling a low-resolution image for high-resolution printing. This lesson will conclude with an overview of compositional elements in graphic design. Lesson 10: They will learn to use custom brush settings, mixed colors, and brushes to blend color. Lesson 11: They will learn to use Adobe Camera Raw with Photoshop to adjust image tone, color, and sharpness.

The students will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop CC

Graphic Design and Illustration

Chapter 4 reviews techniques for adding and manipulating type and drawing and using vector paths and shapes. This chapter includes Lessons 7 and 8.

Activity – Lesson 7: Key skills include using rulers and guides, positioning text, previewing fonts, formatting text, and bending text along a path. Lesson 8: Key skills include drawing vector paths and shapes and using them to create vector masks to control what is shown in an image. Students will also create and manipulate their own custom shapes.

Chapter 3 teaches us eight Photoshop quick fixes for common problems, plus several ways to isolate specific content within an image.  Chapter 3 includes Lesson 5 and Lesson 6.

Activity – Lesson 5: Key skills include using the Red Eye tool, brightening a too dark image, combining multiple images into a panorama, applying blur, using the Content-Aware Move tool, and correcting for a number of camera lens defects. Lesson 6: Key skills include creating and refining masks to isolate content, using Puppet Warp to manipulate an image, and loading and isolating channels to make selections.

Graphic Design and Illustration

Chapter 2 teaches us how to use selection and layering tools that let you choose and combine parts of different images and try on a variety of professional quality effects, all without undoing the original image. Chapter 2 includes Lesson 3 and Lesson 4.

Activity – Lesson 3: Key skills include selecting, moving, resizing, duplicating, and deselecting items, using keyboard shortcuts and the arrow keys to nudge a selection, and cropping unwanted area out of an image. The lesson concludes with an overview of training, education, and certifications for graphic design professionals. Lesson 4: Key skills include navigating the Layers panel, copying, renaming, arranging, and flattening layers, and applying a variety of styles and effects within an individual layer

Graphic Design and Illustration

Chapter 1 introduces students to the Photoshop environment and its basic tools. Lessons 1 and 2 will be covered in Chapter 1.

Activity – Lesson 1: Key skills include navigating and customizing the workspace, using the Zoom and Eyedropper tools, using the Layers and Navigate panels, brightening a photograph, adding and customizing text, and undoing actions in Photoshop. The lesson concludes with a review of employability and the professional qualities and personal appearance standards employers seek. Lesson 2: Key skills include straightening and cropping images, using the Spot Healing Brush, Patch, and Clone Stamp tools, and using the Curves and Levels options to adjust tonal range. The lesson concludes with a review of the history of graphic design.
